Since it's release in April 2023, Monopoly GO! has topped the revenue charts for apps in 2023. We take a look at just how much this app is raking in and try answer why people are spending so much on this game.

This is an incredible amount of money, but still only a fraction of what Coin Master, which is a game with a similar mechanic, generated in it's peak year. Back in 2020 Coin Masters revenue were $1.2Bn, could Monopoly GO! be on track to acheive that level of success?

It's still early days to see how the game will play out, but month after month, the game seems to be hitting new highs despite manay members of the playing community not liking the recent changes in the game. you only have to spend a few minutes digging through Reddit, Discord or Twitter to find players complaining about Monopoly GO! and how the new dice rewards are not as good as they were, and it's just too hard to complete the new sticker sets.

But with so many millions of players around the world, some hate is surely to be expected especially in this digital agte now where it is so easily to grumble about something.

Will the game devs help the unsatisfied players and find some kind of middle ground that keeps more people happy? We at AppGamer certainly hope so, as we also recognise there have been significant changes in the game, and perhaps the mechanics now need to be tweaked again in the opposite direction for the sake of the longevity of the game.

Product & Game Design Consultant, Jakub Remiar provides some interesting information in his post above which shows how well the Monopoly GO revenues have continued to grow with the majority of it's revenue being from the most recent weeks.

Monopoly GO and Coin Master

It looks like it is a head to battle with these two for domination of the genre. We await more information to see the impact the growth of Monopoly GO will have on Coin Master and what changes and updates they will implement to compete with this new entrant.
